Event Overview:
The business of searching for documents has become ritual. We know that the information we are seeking resides within one of many electronic repositories, so we dump a handful of keywords into a Google-like search and pick through the endless results until we can’t take anymore and give up. Next, we call or email the one person in the organization who mysteriously knows where every scrap of information is located and use up a rare and precious favor in order to gain assistance in finding the sought-after document. Sometimes we even include a promise to never ask this person for help with this again. But we know that we will.
The average executive spends one full workday per week searching for documents. The critical need to make the search for information more precise and, thereby, efficient has created a frenzy in technology development. Semantic web offers the possibility to treat information and knowledge as if it were one, large, integrated database allowing data from various but relevant sources to be utilized in diverse ways based on an organization’s need. As envisioned by Sir Tim Berner-Lee, the Semantic Web allows machines to see information within context no matter where it resides.
Intervise, a thought leader in the area of Semantic Web, and valued IT partner of the Federal government will bring together leading technologists and executives from government and private sector for an executive breakfast on Semantic Web on December 11, 2008 at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel in Washington, D.C. Presenters will discuss the challenges and solutions to managing huge federal data-repositories and how to share information across multiple datasets.
Learning Objectives:
- How data can be shared and used across government offices, departments and agencies along with federal contractors.
- Ways to develop software that solves challenging information management problems within federal agencies and examples of how massive datasets can be simplified based on utilizing Semantic Web technology.
- Why Semantic Web is important to mission-critical applications – particularly within the intelligence community – that require up-to-date information in real-time.
- The latest solutions to previously unsolved semantic web problems.
