Congratulations to Karina Gallegos who is the 2008-2009 recipient of the Shannon J. and Michael D. Priddy Endowed Scholarship awarded through the University of Maryland.

 

Karina is an incoming junior with the construction management technology program. She received her AA degree in architecture from Montgomery College. She is currently employed by a nearby construction company, Alpine Stone, and finds it a challenge to be a young woman in a male dominated career field. When she graduates she would like to continue working for her company but move into the specialized area of estimation. Karina volunteers in Montgomery County at the Manna Food Center and at the library of Rockville teaching non native speaking adults to learn English.

 

The newly established Shannon J. and Michael D. Priddy Endowed Scholarship is given annually to a graduate or undergraduate student with demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and financial need.  Students eligible for the scholarship can be enrolled in majors ranging across a dozen degree programs in information technology and related fields.  

 

Intervise CEO, Michael Priddy joined the USG Board of Advisors in 2003 and became First Vice Chair in 2007; he currently leads the Business Partnerships Development Committee. His initial involvement with USG and the University System of Maryland started when he spoke to the legislature about the importance of sustained funding for technology in higher education. As the founder and leader of a software development company, he has helped USG build relationships with technology trade associations and high tech companies.

 

In addition to serving on the USG Board of Advisors, Priddy is on the Board of Directors for MCPS AOIT, Bethesda AFCEA and Montgomery County Economic Advisory Council and formerly on the board of the Technology Council of Maryland.
